Change

So much has changed since my last post. And yet, thankfully, one thing hasn't changed. First big change, I'm working on creating more margin in my life. I am in the process of stepping down from my job. It was a tough decision and a long time coming. But God has given me peace that this is the right thing to do for now. More time to focus on my family...kids and husband. More time to clean the house (yee-haw!) and do laundry (yee-haw!) and all those fun things that always need done. And more time to focus on school with my kids. I'm grateful for all of it.

I will certainly miss my job. I worked with some great people. Got the privilege of sharing the gospel with kids, worshipping with kids and serving with some really devoted adults. But "Church" - and I mean the building we go to, the people that are there, the politics and personalities that come into play - can get complicated. It can get messy. If we're not careful, it can cloud our view of God. I don't wish it on anyone.

Thankfully, the one thing that hasn't changed is God's character. He is God no matter what is going on. He still knows, He still hears, He still cares. And no matter what, He will be glorified. It might not be pretty in the process, and it might not happen the way we want it to or in the timeframe that we expect, but He will be glorified. I'm so glad He doesn't change. Too much other stuff does.

Blog. That's a weird word. And I'm not sure if anyone will have any interest in checking out what I have to say. However, it does appeal to me to have a location to do a brain dump, share some encouragement, journal my thoughts and spout off every now and again.

Take today for example. What a weird day today was. Rainy, all day long. Busy, too busy. Stuff just packed into the day with very little margin, at least very little margin when I most needed it. Case in point...at WalMart today my son lost his brand new $25 VISA gift card at WalMart. Not just lost anywhere. It was lost where we knew where it was, but couldn't reach it. If you're ever at a WalMart, go to the shoe section. Find one of those little metal benches that they have incorporated into the metal shoe shelves. Now, imagine your gift card slipping down a small crack behind the bench and getting stuck on the floor in between this bench and the other bench that was right behind it. Shelves of shoes all around. And the only way to the card was by taking the bench apart. All of this while trying to get out of the store so we could get to soccer practice that was going to start in 45 minutes. Not enough margin. Breathe. The lessons for me for today.... 1) today was too busy. Not enough margin to keep me level when stuff didn't go my way. 2) There are nice people everywhere. Especially in the WalMart shoe department at 5:15pm this evening. 3) God even took care of the gift card...with the help of a shoe clerk, store manager, WalMart truck worker and a determined son.
